UK: NMC notes a sharp fall in international nurse recruitment growth
On 14 October 2026 the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) responded to a Skills for Care report on adult social care in England. It said registered nurse posts in the sector have risen for a third year but growth is slowing, and that growth in the overall nursing workforce, particularly through international recruitment, has fallen sharply in recent years. The NMC will consult later this year on updated standards and guidance on safe delegation, and the response sets no new rules for internationally educated nurses.
